Here are two stories from Joseph Mwingira, another member of Tanzania Beach Lifeguards.
October
I was on patrol, there was a young boy swimming with his friend, they were about 13. They both knew how to swim pretty well but the tide was going out and so they were swimming hard without moving much, and getting quite tired. As one of the boys really started to struggle, his friend tried to help him but was unable to. I saw all of this from the beach and so was able to jump in rescue the young man in trouble. His friend was able to make his own way back. The young boy couldn’t speak for quite some time when I got him out. But eventually he was fine.
Mid November
There was a young man of about 25, he was swimming in shallow water. Unfortunately he stepped on a glass bottle. He was unable to make his own way back so I went to him and helped him to the shore. We provided him with first aid and then his wife was able to take him to the hospital.
